Hi!  Welcome to my webpage.  Pardon the mess.

I am Professor of Economics and Public Policy in the Merage School of Business at UC Irvine, where I am also director of the UCI Center for Real Estate. I spent a long time at Penn State University and also a few years at UNLV.  I am co-editor of Journal of Regional Science, and in 2016  served as president of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association.  My co-edited book, Energy Efficiency and the Future of Real Estate  was published by Palgrave Press in 2017.

My son, Brendan, and my wife, Linda, and I, wrote a novel that sets a detective story within the (probably apocryphal) encounter between the Chinese Imperial Navy and the Meso-American Tarascan Empire in the 15th Century.  It was fun to write.  Here's the webpage for the book, which contains links to purchase. We will sign your copy!
  • The Casebook of Qing and Xmucane: Being the accounts of the collaboration between an young Chinese naval officer and an elderly, very perceptive Meso-American woman as they encounter mysteries and adventures.
